At Seventh root Workshops, everyone is a filmmaker. Our exciting range of workshops includes animation, documentary, and scripted drama as well as specialist techniques such as GoPro and photography. Every workshop is facilitated by professional filmmakers and participants gain skills on the latest digital filmmaking equipment. All of our workshops encourage creativity and skills training in a fun and supportive learning environment. We facilitate workshops in schools, community groups, and offices. We have many structured workshop packages, and we can design bespoke workshops for your specific requirements.

ANIMATION WORKSHOPS

In an animated film, anything can happen – if you can imagine it, we will help you create it. We offer an exciting range of creative animation workshops where participants will be encouraged to do every part of the filmmaking process, from the initial idea all the way to the edit.

We run fun activities using a variety of 2D and 3D materials. In fact, you can animate pretty much anything; paper, plasticine, people, and more! We will also add sound effects and music to bring your films to life!

SKILLS LEARNED

During this creative experience, you’ll learn how to present your imaginations in a video form using your Creative skills, camera skills, and an eye for using things for telling stories with fun.

DOCUMENTARY WORKSHOPS

Documentary production can be one of the most exciting and rewarding forms of filmmaking. Seventh root offers workshops with professional documentary makers who enrich their facilitation with real-world experience.

From historical stories to social documentaries, our workshops focus on bringing well-researched true stories to the screen in creative and inspiring ways. We’ll go through each stage of the process including research, interview technique, filming, and editing, enabling the group to produce a polished documentary film

SCRIPT TO SCREEN WORKSHOP

Seventh root script to screen courses guide children and young people through the process of coming up with a film idea all the way to the end product. Through creative exercises and skills-based sessions, they will work with genre, character, and story development. They will devise stories, plan shots, shoot and edit their film.

Taking place over one or more days, Chocolate Films script to screen courses for children and young people is unrivaled in the UK. We have been running award-winning drama filmmaking courses for children and young people since 2001. In 2007, we even spent a fortnight at Pinewood Studios teaching children to make short films on-air on CBBC’s flagship program Blue Peter!

SKILLS LEARNED

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to plan, film, and edit a short film. It develops good communication, teamwork, confidence building.

MUSIC VIDEO WORKSHOPS

Music videos offer unique creative possibilities. Participants in our music video workshops will work with our filmmakers in a fun, highly practical and engaging environment to craft music videos for any type of music. These workshops offer expansive creative opportunities for all involved; do you create a short story around the music? Do you want to create a video echoing the movement of the music in dance? Or how about an artistic mood piece? The possibilities are as endless as the participant’s imaginations.

Participants work with close guidance from our facilitators to plan, shoot and edit their music videos. We shoot on location taking it in turns to direct, act, operate the camera, and edit. The workshops are fun, fast-paced, and very practical. Participants can choose their music from an extensive professional online resource and can learn a range of skills outside of practical filmmaking including teamwork, planning, and organizational skills.

DIGITAL STORYTELLING WORKSHOPS

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE WORKSHOP

Seventh root digital storytelling workshops are experimental and fun. Using still images and/or archive footage and adding voiceover recordings and sound, participants will gain knowledge and experience of developing a story into a visual narrative.

Our facilitators will provide demonstrations and exercises in composition, style, and storytelling through still imagery. Building and shaping a visual story through images will be reinforced by creating a voice-over script to further punctuate the story. The use of sound recorders and microphones will enable participants to capture and record their own distinct narrative.

SKILLS LEARNED

Character creation, storyboarding, story development, arts and crafts, stop motion animation, and video editing. It develops good communication, teamwork, confidence building.

GO PRO CAMERAS WORKSHOP

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE WORKSHOP

At Seventh Root, we love Go Pro cameras. These small cameras are extremely versatile and can be attached to pretty much anything. We’ve secured them to bicycles, motorbikes, boats, people, and even dogs when making our films.

In this workshop, we look at how to use Go Pro cameras to create exciting shots and great-looking action sequences. The workshop is perfect for an after-school club or a one or two-day workshop. It’s active, engaging, and fun for participants. It’s a fantastic way to look at visual storytelling using moving cameras, and dynamic editing skills.

WHO WE WORK WITH

SEVENTH ROOT REGULARLY WORKS WITH SCHOOLS & COLLEGES

We have specially designed a number of different types of workshops that can be provided to empower our youth. Our workshops are an excellent way for young people and vulnerable adults to explore their creativity, raise awareness for their community group, challenge stereotypes and develop their skills for the future. Our working methods are very flexible so that our workshops fit in easily with school timetables. We also have considerable experience
working with young people with behavioral difficulties.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS

Seventh root workshops are a brilliant way to infuse media and creativity into learning programs at primary schools. We have experience designing workshops for children from Key Stages 2 & 3 that are simple, fun, hands-on, and craft-based. We train with easy-to-use cameras and editing software so that children can engage in all aspects of the filmmaking process.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Seventh root workshops are perfect for secondary schools to enhance students’ film and media literacy. Our workshops tie into several subjects, especially Environment, Citizenship, History, Media, Drama, and Art. Drama students respond well to Script to Screen workshops. And learn creative writing and performance skills. Art students enjoy our animation workshops which inspire them to use their drawing, model making, and craft skills in a different way.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

Our workshops are an excellent springboard for students to develop their skills for future training, education, and employment. Our sessions are designed to be hands-on, active, and fun. Community Groups & NGO’s

Each year Seventh root outreaches to approximately 600 people bringing our workshops to groups/NGO’s that rarely have the opportunity to experience filmmaking. Our workshops are an excellent way for young people and vulnerable adults to explore their creativity, raise awareness for their community groups/NGO’s, challenge stereotypes, and develop their skills for the future.
